| If you say you're going to Gabon, lots of people will ask you 'where?'. This african land is indeed not a ordinary destination. Gabon is situated on the west coast between the Republic of Congo, Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea. In 2002 Gabon has created 13 new national parks which covers 10% of the total land. One of the new parks is mont birougou, situated in the south. This 690 square kilometers of land is part of the chaillu massif, with mountains at 1000 meters such as 'mont Birougou'. You find in this forested hills the sources of several rivers like the Nyanga and Ngounié. There has been few research here, but scientists expect a high number of biodiversity, especially for insects, amfibians and reptiles. There should be also 20 species of primates in the forest like the gorilla, chimpansee and cercopithecus solatus , which was identified not so long ago (1988). You can bump up a big forest elephant or other mammals and birds are numerous but difficult to see. With help from Mr Tanga, conservator of the park, and support of Kinepolis Mega nv , I had the chance to go to the park for 3 months. The goal was to make a photographic portfolio of plants and animals of this area. It was difficult, but I'm glad to inform you I have taken beautiful pictures their, especially from primates. Look quick to my pictures and experience the jungle. More information on Gabon National Parks. |
